There’s an impasse in talks between Ontario’s public high school teachers union and the provincial government and school boards.

Paul Elliott, president of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation says the government continues to demand concessions that would result in ineferior learning conditions.

In a statement, the union says two days of talks with a mediator have failed to make progress.

Public high school teachers in Peel Region, Durham Region and Sudbury are currently on strike, leaving more than 70-thousand students out of class.

Education Minister Liz Sandals says she’s disappointed that mediated talks have failed to result in an agreement.

Sandals says she’s committed to reaching a negotiated settlement that the province can afford.
