There`s a battle going on in New York over naming a section of road on Long Island after Billy Joel.

At issue is whether roads should be named after only the dead, or should the living be eligible as well.

The Piano Man, of course, is still very much alive and still performing.

New York State Senator Jack Martins last year introduced a bill to rename a one-quarter mile part of Route 107 after Joel. It`s in Hicksville, hometown of the six-time Grammy Award winner.

Martins said he wanted to do it because of Joel`s contributions to the community.

But a state assemblywoman opposed to the bill says it`s the type of honour that show go to someone after they die.

Both the State Assembly and Senate need to approve the bill.
