There’s a federal election taking place, a time when pollsters are in big demand, but they claim they’re going through some tough times.

Many are even saying these are “dark days’ for their industry.

The reasons include a decline in the number of people willing to take part in a survey. They also say there is no complete and reliable registry of citizens.

As well, many people are changing their phone service from landlines to cellphones, making it more costly and difficult to build a reliable survey sample.

There has also been a proliferation of new polling firms over the past few years, causing the industry to caution Candians to be skeptical during the early stages pf the election campaign about polls and their results.
