Artists from all the major Alllied powers of World War II performed at the United Nations on Friday to mark the 70th anniversary of the end of the war and the establishment of the U.N. It was one of the largst concerts ever held at the General Assembly.

Among featured artists was Russian-born violinist Maxim Vengerov who performed music from the motion picture “Schindler’s List” composed by John Williams.

Also performing was the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra. Founded in 1879, it’s China’s oldest symphony orchestra.

The SSO’s Music Director, Long Yu, says their concert at the U.N.is about memories and about new beginnings.
