Elton John wants to meet with Vladimir Putin to talk about gay rights in Russia.
The 68-year-old pop superstar has been a long-time critic of Russia’s law that bans what it calls “homosexual propaganda.”
He says his conscience tells him to try to talk to Putin about ending prejudice, even if it means he’ll be criticized for it.
John was speaking at a conference in Ukraine where he met President Petro Poroshenko and lobbied him about the rights of the LGBT community.
John already condemed the Russian law in a 2013 concert in Moscow, and in St. Petersburg last year.
He was the first western rock star to perform in the then Soviet Union in 1979.
