We’ll soon be rolling up our sleeves once again to get our annual flu shots, and health professionals and officials say we shouldn’t worry about the fact that last year’s flu shot wasn’t very effective.

The problem with last year’s vaccine is being described as an “anomoly” by Public Health Ontario’s Dr. Bryna Warshawsky.

There was a mismatch with last year’s influenza vaccine when one of the viruses mutated between the time vaccine production began early in the year and the time the flu season began in the late fall.

Health officials say it’s important that everone gets an annual flu shot, especially the elderly and those who may have underlying health conditions, which could lead to death without a flu vaccination.
