Would you like to travel to Mars and never come back?

There are currently 100 people who say they’re willing to do that, and six of them are Canadians. Of those six, two say their confidence has been boosted by NASA’s recent announcement that flowing water appears to be present on the red planet.

Daniel Benjamin Criger, a University of Waterloo PhD candidate from Hamilton, and Whistler, B.C. high-school teacher Johanna Hindle say that the news of water on Mars makes them feel more confident about the chances of a successful mission.

The 100 finalists will be trimmed down to 24 members of Mars One by next September.

Mars One is a Dutch-based organization hoping to establish a Mars colony by 2027.
