The global agreement to fight climate change by reducing emissions has been adopted.
Delegates from the nearly 200 countries taking part in the U-N sponsored conference near Paris received copies of the draft agreement early Saturday.
They were urged to adopt the agreement by U-N Secrertary General Ban Ki-moon and French President Francois Hollande who said the deal was the best that could be expected.
The result of the vote Saturday afternoon was greeted by loud cheering and applause.
The agreement aims at keeping the rise in global temperatures by the end of the century to below 2 degrees Celsius.
A large crowd of demonstrators outside the facility where the delegates voted claimed the deal doesn’t go far enough.
