The world welcomed 2016 with a combination of the usual partying and revelry, and the hope of better things to come in the New Year, but also with a certain degree of trepidation this year,
The word “terrorism” and the phrase “terrosit attack” have become far too common, so this year many of the world’s great cities were on high alert as crowds gathered to celebrate.
Security was stepped up in Toronto, but crowds at Nathan Phillips Square enjoyed a night of entertainment, skating, and best of all, warmer temperatures than last New Year’s Eve.
While a luxury hotel in Dubai caught fire, the spectacular blaze didn’t stop the city from holding it’s annual fireworks display just a few blocks away.
New York City said it would be the safest place on earth with it’s massive security preparations, and it apppeared to be just that with about a million people having a good time as the ball dropped in Times Square.
Authorities in Munich, Germany were on high alert when a friendly foreign intelligence service warned of an imminent terror attack at midnight by suicide bombers planning to blow themselves up at different locations.
The city’s two train stations were shut down, but have since re-opened.
