The actor who played Trapper John on the hit television comedy M*A*S*H has died.

Wayne Rogers was 82.

Rogers was only on M*A*S*H for the first 3 of its 11 seasons, but his character was one of the most loved on what was one of televisions most popular shows of all time.

Trapper John and Hawkeye Pierce, played by Alan Alda, were the show’s two main characters; U.S. Army surgeons near the front lines of the Korean war, often using down-time to wisecrack as they enjoyed the product of their homemade still.

After leaving the show, Rogers became a respected investor and money manager, appearing regularly on the Fox News investment show, “Cashin’ In.”

He was a native of Alabama and a graduate of Princeton University.
