The Academy Awards have selected the Edmonton International Film Festival as an Oscar-qualifying festival.

It means that members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will be considering for Oscars the Edmonton Festival’s 2016 award winners in the short film categories of live action and animation.

The Edmonton Film Festival is one of only four in Canada that have Oscar-qualifying status, and the only one in western Canada.
