Toronto is celebrating all things basketball this weekend.
The 2016 NBA All Star game is being played Sunday night at the Air Canada Centre, and a variety of special events and competitions are being held throughout the weekend.
The skills competitions take place Saturday night with league scoring leader, Golden State’s Steph Curry among the favourites in the 3-point shooting contest, and Minnesota’s Zach LaVine ready to defend his slam dunk title.
N-B-A Commissioner Adam Silver opened the festivities Thursday noting that the league’s very first game was played at Maple Leaf Gardens on November 1st 1946 between the New York Knicks and the Toronto Huskies, when it was called the Basketball Association of America.
