Members of Parliament will have more money to spend in their office budgets at the start of the new fiscal year.

The secretive Board of Internal Economy approved the budget increases in December for MPs and other officers of Parliament, but word of the increases was only recently made public.

The Board controls the spending for Parliament.

The total office budget increase amounts to 25-million dollars, and means that an MP’s current budget of $288,450 will now go up by $57,690, an additional 20 percent

Also in line for office budget increases are The Speaker of the House of Commons, deputy speakers, party leaders, whips and caucas chairs.

Travel budget maximum amounts will also be increased.
