One of Canada’s best known and most influential literary editors has died.
Ellen Seligman passed away on Friday according to Kristin Cochrane, president and publisher at Random House Canada.
Seligman’s family has asked that her age and details surrounding her death not be made public.
Seligman edited books by some of Canada’s most famous authors; among them, Leonard Cohen, Margared Atwood and Michael Ondaatje.
Atwood Tweeted, “Very sad that my long-time editor at McClelland + Stewart has died.
Ondaatge said Seligman was “a gift to good writing.”
Seligman had spent several years in New York and London before coming to Canada in 1976 and joining McClelland and Stewart in 1977.
