Walmart has announced it will stop accepting Visa cards at its Canadian stores, starting with its Thunder Bay locations on July 18th.
The retail giant says it’s taking the action because Visa’s transaction fees are too high.
It joins No Frills and Costco on the list of Canadian retailers who no longer accept Visa cards.
Walmart says it will continue to accept MasterCard, American Express and Interac debit.
A statement from Visa says it offered Walmart “one of the lowest rates available to any merchant in the country.”
It also warns that Walmart’s decision will have a “negative impact” on its customers.
