Patrons at New York City’s Metropolitan Opera were shocked Saturday afternoon when a man walked to the front and sprinkled a powdery substance into the orchestra pit.
It caused officials to cancel the rest of the mid-day performance of “Gillaume Tell” as well as the Saturday evening performance of “L’Italiana in Algeri” so that police could continue their investigation.
NYPD say a man attending the afternoon performance told some audience members he was there to spread the cremated ashes of his mentor.
The theatre was evacuated, and there were no reports of injuries or of any bad reactions to the substance.
