The National War Memorial in Ottawa is open to the public again. Barriers around it were removed on Friday.

The iconic structre on Elgin Street was closed in early April for repairs and rstoration work that included refurbishing its bronze statues, preservation work on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, as well as repairing damaged concrete slabs and paving.

The structure is the site of Canada’s National Remembrance Day ceremony every year on November 11th.

It was created in honour of the sacrifices made by Canada’s Armed Forces Personnel, and was unveiled in 1939.

The Memorial is also known as “The Response“ and was created by British sculptor Vernon March who won a design competition for the work.
