Some people in Quebec who sponsored refugees from Syria, don`t have the resources to care of them and aren`t living up to their end of the deal. That`s according to some local community organizations.
Even though they meant well, some people and groups apparently weren`t fully aware of the responsibilities they had toward the refugees they sponsored, according to Paul Clarke of “Action Refugies Montreal.“
Private sponsors in Quebec are responsible for the social and financial well-being of the refugees they bring to Canada for 12 months.
After that period of time, the refugees can apply to the province for welfare.
Quebec took in about two-thousand Syrian refugees by the end of 2015, the year Prime Minister Justin Trudeau pledged during the election campaign to welcome 25-thousand.
