A bill passed in the U-S Congress will allow more customs preclearance in Canada. The bill lets U-S customs agents screen passengers at Toronto’s Billy Bishop and at Quebec City’s jean Lesage airport. It also sets up pilot projects for quicker screenings at Montreal’s train station, and on the Rocky Mountaineer train line. Officials in both countries celebrated the news. Preclearance is familiar to many Canadians-12 million passengers already use it each year at Canadian airports, eight of which have U.S. Customs facilities. The deal could eventually include buses, and potentially even car travel. The bill is part of border efforts to speed things up that were slowed by security measures after the 9-11 attacks.
