The Scarborough subway extension tops the agenda at Tuesday’s meeting of Toronto’s executive committee. The price tag has climbed to $3.35 billion dollars. The committee is expected to OK the recommendations in the city’s latest report but that doesn’t mean the committee won’t hear an earful today from people against the plan including Toronto councillor Janet Davis who says it’s irresponsible to keep working toward the costly subway although she expects the committe will approve it. Mayor Tory continues to defend the extension saying its taken the city decades to address the need for transit in Scarborough. Detractors are still pushing for the alternative light rapid transit. Toronto’s executive committee is also looking at a report that shows the city is lagging behind when it comes to treatment for first responders dealing with PTSD. There are currently 64 firefighters off the job in Toronto suffering from post traumatic stress disorder.
