Moviemakers are worried that plans to revamp one of Toronto’s busiest transit routes will damage their favourite shooting location. City planners are looking at ways to improve transit along King Street, the city’s most congested corridor. A pilot study includes plans for expanded sidewalks and more bike lanes. Film makers say changing the streetscape will hurt the movie industry…because it will no longer mimic other big cities. But councillor Joe Cressy, who represents Ward 20, which includes King Street, dismisses those concerns. He say the Toronto film industry is based on the New York model, where they are moving people and making movies. Johnathan Ahee, co-chair of the Toronto Film, TV and Digital Media board says changing the streetscape will hurt the movie industry because it will no longer mimic other big cities. Both sides of the argument will meet up again next month for an update on the plan’s progress. Last month, Mayor John Tory announced that the film and TV industry generated a record two billion dollars last year.
