Anti-terrorism units are investigatiing a frightning incident at Orly Airport in Paris, France this morning.
It began when a man was pulled over in a traffic stop in a Paris suburb and opened fire with birdshot at police officers.
He ran from the scene, then threatened a motorist with a weapon and stole her car. The car was later found at Orly Airport.
At the airport, he attacked three members of the French military, knocked a female member to the ground and attempted to take her weapon. He was then shot and killed.
Authorities say the 39 year-old man had been suspected of Islamic extremism, and had a record of robbery and drug offences.
The airport was evacuated, and incoming flights were redirected to Charles de Gaulle Airport.
The airport has been thoroughly searched and has been given the all-clear.
