TORONTO LOOKING INTO EXPANDING HOLIDAY SHOPPING

The city should call for public input on holiday closure rules.

That is the thrust of a staff report that will be debated by the Licensing and Standards committee today.

The current system is confusing for consumers who struggle to find what is open on any given holiday.

Some places are open on specific holidays depending on the size, location, number of employees and type of goods sold.

A spokesman from the Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers says the current law is out of date and needs to change.

If the report passes at committee, it will be considered at general council on April 26th.
