The spectacular cherry blossoms at Toronto’s High Park are in full bloom this week. This year’s flower show is the best in years but time is running out. According to the park’s website, which posts daily cherry blossom updates, this weekend will be your final chance, weather permitting.

Thousands of Zoomers and children have made the pilgrimage this week to take photos of the tiny white and pink blossoms. Ward 13 Parkdale-High Park councillor Sarah Doucette says it’s a rare opportunity to walk through the unique tunnel of blossoms that overhang the park’s Cherry Hill. She says they are taking great care-and a touch of humour-to ensure the park and trees are protected as evidenced by the signage throughout the park that reads:”Please keep off the Bloomin’ trees.” The High Park trees were a gift from Japan where the Cherry Tree, or Sakura, is revered. It represents beauty but for a brief moment. The blossoms last just one week at most so it’s nature’s way of reminding us to enjoy the moment. The prediction this year is a 10-day bloom cycle, a far cry from last year’s half a day. This weekend April 29-30 will be your last chance to view the blossoms, if the weather cooperates.
