Dozens of residents in Toronto’s Parkdale neighbourhood are refusing to pay rent starting Monday until improvements are made to their units. Tenants in buildings owned by MetCap Living Management Inc. met Sunday to protest rent increases of as much as 9 percent over three years. Rally organizer Cole Webber says the group is hoping to force a meeting with the Landlord Tenant Tribunal. The company’s president has said the buildings are kept in good repair. But that’s not what some resident’s are saying. One woman telling reporters she found a cockroach in her coffee filter basket on the weekend. Residents say unclean conditions combined with rent hikes are pushing out lower income residents.
