A parliamentary committee is trying wrap up its report on parts of the media that might need government help to make up for slumping advertising revenue.
A key featurte would be a special fund that would help community news services transition to online digital versions of their newspapers.
A sticking point in completing the report is how such a fund would be regulated in order to ensure that public money actually goes to smaller newspapers, and not to large, corporate owners.
Committee members will meet this week with the hope of having a version of the report ready soon for translation.
