Canada turns 150 on July 1st and as usual, the biggest birthday party will be on Parliament Hill in Ottawa.

With upwards of 450-thousand people expected to visit our nation’s capital to take part in the celebrations, officials are suggesting they arrive 2 to 3 hours before the events they plan to take in.

To get on to Parliament Hill, party-goers will face mandatory security screening, and certain items will be banned, including umbrellas, tripods, aerosol cans, hard coolers, scissors and knives.

As well, roads in the immediate area will be closed.

Bigger than usual Canada Day crowds are expected this year because of Sesquicentennial celebrations featuring an all-star lineup on the Parliament Hill stage, including U2 band members Bono and the Edge who are going to perform one song at about 12:00 noon on Saturday.

Also performing will be Gordon Lightfoot, Walk Off the Earth, Alessia Cara, Serena Ryder and Dean Brody.
