U.S. President Donald Trump will sign legislation passed by Congress that will implement tough new financial sanctions on Russia.

That’s been confirmed in a statement from White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders who says President Trump read early drafts of the bill and “negotiated regarding critical elements of it.”

Huckabee Sanders went on to say that “Trump has reviewed the final version and. based on its responsiveness to his negotiations, approves the bill and intends to sign it.”

The legislation contains language that prevents Trump from changing the additional penalities.

The sanctions are because of Russia’s meddling in the 2016 U.S. election, and for it’s annexation of Crimea.

Russia has already reacted by ordering the U.S. to reduce the number of American diplomats in Russia, and by closing a recreation retreat used by embassy staff.
