North Korea has released a Mississauga pastor serving a life sentence for trying to use religion to destroy the North Korean system and helping U-S and South Korean authorities lure and abduct North Korean citizens.Pyongyang’s official Korean Central News Agency says Hyeon Soo Lim was released for health reasons. The pastor with the Light Korean Presbyterian Church of Mississauga was convicted and sentenced in 2015. The church has said that Lim visited North Korea more than 100 times since 1997 and helped set up an orphanage and a nursing home. His release comes one day after Canada’s national security adviser arrived in Pyongyang to negotiate his release. Canada does not have an embassy in North Korea, and has advised against all travel there.

Meantime U.S. President Donald Trump says the United States’ nuclear arsenal is “far stronger and more powerful than ever before”. He tweeted this morning, “My first order as President was to renovate and modernize our nuclear arsenal. It is now far strong and more power than ever before.” The tweet comes after his heated warning to North Korea yesterday. North Korea has threatened to launch pre-emptive military strikes against the United States, including targeting the U.S. Pacific island territory of Guam.A statement issued by state-run media today ratcheted up the increasing tension between Pyongyang and Washington by saying that North Korea would turn the U.S. mainland into the theatre of a nuclear war if it were to uncover any sign of an impending American attack.
