The federal N-D-P are close to choosing their new leader. Party faithful are meeting in Toronto this weekend to hear the results of first round voting. For a first ballot victory, the winner will need more than 50 per cent of the vote, or, the last-place candidate drops off the ballot for the next round of voting. Ontario’s Jagmeet Singh and Charlie Angus as well as Manitoba’s Niki Ashton and Quebec’s Guy Caron are squaring off in the leadership bid. Also this weekend, the former communications director for late leader Jack Layton, said the N-D-P has been irrelevant in Ottawa for the past two year. Kathleen Monk says the new leader will allow the party to wipe the slate clean and motivate demoralized staff. The months-long search for a new leader could finally come to an end Sunday.
