Canadians get a snap shot of what this country really looks like when Statistics Canada releases the latest batch of information from the 2016 census on Wednesday, October 25.
It marks the first details from the resurrected mandatory long-form questionnaire after a 10-year hiatus. Professor Michael Haan, who is co-chair of the Statistics Canada data centre at Western University says the information will highlight the importance of the long-form census. Wednesday’s release is expected to show immigrants making up a larger share of the population, with more and more of them settling in western Canada. The Liberals reinstated the mandatory long-form census as one the party’s first acts in government, reversing a decision by the previous Conservative government to replace the questionnaire with a voluntary survey.
