Alberta’s new United Conserviative Party has a new leader with plenty of top-level political experience.

Jason Kenney, a former federal cabinet minister in the Stephen Harper Conservative government, obtained 61 percent of the vote Saturday to become the leader of the UCP’s 27-member caucus.

Kenney defeated Brian Jean, the former leader of the Wildrose Party, and Lawyer Doug Schweitzer.

Kenney does not have a seat in the Alberta Legislature so he will have to wait for a byelection or the next general election.
