Today is world pancreatic cancer day. Advocates around the world will be wearing purple and using the Twitter hashtag “demand better” for the only cancer with a survival rate that’s still in the single digits. A new partnership is answering the call. The Pancreatic Cancer Canada Foundation and the Cancer Research Society have teamed up to raise $2 million dollars for research committed solely to the fight against pancreatic cancer. Zoomer VP of news and Information, Libby Znaimer, is a pancreatic cancer survivor and has chronicled her journey in a documentary called “Cancer Saved my Life.” Only 8 percent of patients live five years from diagnosis. Pancreatic cancer is among the most poorly funded when it comes to research dollars, with only about two per cent of all monies raised for cancer going to this type of tumour. This year, an estimated 55-hundred Canadians will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and about 48-hundred will die from the disease, Canadian Cancer Society statistics indicate.
