Here’s another reason to get active. The biggest reason for weight gain as we age has nothing to do with metabolism which is minimal in midlife. As we get older, we get less active.The National Institutes of Health claims the best way to counter weight gain is to increase any activity like running or walking. Some believe that strength training and weight lifting fit into this category but evidence suggests otherwise. While this helps with balance and agility, it won’t change metabolism much. The NIH encourages staying active and sticking to smaller portions of food to ward off weight gain as we age.
