Canada’s young tennis phenom Denis Shapovalov has won the Lionel Conacher Award as Canada’s male athlete of the year.
The 17 year-old from Richmond Hill, Ontario won 31 percent of the voting done by sports editors and broadcasters across the country.
He defeated hockey superstar Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins by one vote.
Toronto’s Joey Votto of the Cincinnati Reds was third in voting.
