The downtown armoury opened Saturday night, two days ahead of schedule just as Toronto faced a 13th day of extreme cold. The building is close to other shelters where many seek refuge every day. The 100-bed armoury wasn’t set to open until Monday, after an agreement between the city and the Federal Government. It will be open for two weeks only. The City has also increased the capacity at the Better Living Centre to 200 spaces and added an additional 80 beds at Regent Park Community Centre and will use Wellesley Community Centre as an additional respite space.
