The Canadian International Documentary Festival, or Hot Docs as it’s known as, handed out awards and money Friday night in Toronto.
Canadian and International filmmakers took home 12 awards and 85 thousand dollars in prizes.
The winner of the Special Jury Prize, Canadian Feature Documentary, went to “What Walaa Wants”. It tells the story of a young woman named Walaa whose goal is to become one of the few women members of the Palestinian Security Forces.
“A Little Wisdom” won the Best Canadian Feature Documentary Award. The film is about a Buddhist monestary in Nepal. It’s seen through the eyes of a 5 year-old novice.
And the Emerging Canadian Filmmaker Award went to Michael Del Monte for “Transformer.” It’s about a world-record powerlifter, ex-Marine and father who is going through a sex change.
