Ontario’s chief medical officer has a reminder about protecting against Lyme disease.
David Williams says people who spend a lot of time outdoors in the warmer weather need to take precautions to avoid ticks, the carriers of Lyme disease, a bacterial ilness spread by tick insect bites.
It moves quickly through the central nervous system and can affect the heart and joints.
Williams says people who are outdoors a lot near brush, tall grass or wooded areas should cover as much skin as possible by wearing ling-sleeved shirts and t-shirts, as well as long pants rather than shorts.
And use a repellent with DEET.
