People have fled their homes and dozens of homes have been destroyed by molten lava as Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano continues to ooze lava from its fissures, and spew steam and ash skyward from its summit.
Scientists can’t determine if lava flowing from more than 20 fissures will continue moving or will stop soon.
Officials are distributing face masks to help protect against particles of ash.
The first major injury occured when a resident of the area was burned by splashing lava.
.
Although the volcano is affecting just a small area of the Big Island, there is growing concern over its economic impact affecting hotels and cruise lines.
