U-S President Donald Trump would like publicly traded companies to look at discontinuing filing quarterly financial reports in favour of twice-yearly statements.

Trump says he’s asked federal regulators to consider it, and determine if it would make more economic sense.

The U-S Securities and Exchange Commission, the S-E-C  requires publicly traded companies to publish their revenue, profit and other important figures on a regular basis every quarter.

Critics say it forces executives to make short-term decisions that don’t truly reflect a company’s long-term viability.

As well, preparing and publishing figures on a six-month basis would be much less expensive.

The Chairman of the S-E-C says the Commission has already been studying the issue.
