Premier Doug Ford’s PC government says it will scrap a planned 3-cent-per-litre increase in the provincial beer tax that was set to kick in November 1st. The government says beer taxes have increased by three cents per litre each year since 2015 under the previous Liberal government. While buck a beer came into effect in August, the province continues to review the possible expansion of beer and wine sales into corner and big box stores. The government could not immediately say how much tax revenue it will forgo by halting the beer tax increase. Beer and wine taxes brought in revenues of roughly $589 million in 2016-2017.
