Toronto’s murder rate has now tied all time high of 89 set back in 1991.This morning’s fatal shooting near Albion and Weston is the city’s 89th homicide of the year. And with 7 weeks left in the year, it’s expected a new record will be set.The city has seen a sharp spike in gun violence this year and Toronto police responded this past summer with the temporary addition of officers in high risk neighbourhoods. Wendy Cukier, President of Coalition for Gun Control says her group has launched a new campaign asking Canadians to speak out now before it’s too late. The “Trigger Change” campaign encourages Canadians to sign a petition and contact their local MP to show their support for tighter gun laws.
