If you’ve ever been bumped from a flight or stuck on the tarmac for hours, help is on the way.

Later today, Transport Minister Marc Garneau will unveil details of the government’s long-promised passenger bill of rights. The new rules will ensure travelers are treated with respect when flights are cancelled or postponed because of overbooking, or when an airline company loses baggage. Passengers will get compensation when the delay is caused by the airline but not for weather-related delays. In addition, parents will be allowed to sit next to their children without having to pay a fee. The Liberals passed legislation last spring to establish a passenger bill of rights. The details will be published online and Canadians will be asked for input.
