The federal government has announced a new bill aimed at expediting free pardons for those accused of simple marijuana possession.
Right now Canadians applying for pardons need to pay $631 in a process that could take up to 10 years.
The New Democrats however say Bill C-93 doesn’t go far enough as a pardon does not erase the fact that you were convicted of a crime.
They want records for simple pot possession expunged so that the criminal history is erased completely.
