Calling it a wake up call for the world, the Audubon Society says climate change could wipe out two-thirds of bird species across North America and Canada would be especially hard hit. Society spokesman Jeff Wells says all 16 species in Canada’s Arctic and nearly all those living in the Boreal forest are at least moderately threatened with extinction. The report looked at more than 600 species of birds and predicted climate impacts up to the end of the century. The stark warning follows recent research that showed the US and Canada had lost 2.9 billion birds in about the last 50 years. Golden eagles are among the almost 400 species that may not be able to survive in North America, the report says. But the report adds that the impact could be greatly reduced with measures to limit greenhouse gas emissions. To read the study, click here
