ANDREW SCHEER PLANS BILLIONS IN CUTS TO BALANCE BUDGET

As the federal election campaign enters its final days, and on the first day of advanced polling, Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer has unveiled the Conservative’s costed platform during a stop in British Columbia. He’s promising to balance the budget in five years and says it’s possible by delaying billions in federal infrastructure spending, levying a tax on tech giants, and finding ways to cut billions of dollars in spending. In infrastructure alone, the Conservatives plan to cut $18 billion in spending over five years. The document delivers income tax cuts and tax breaks for various demographics. There are also some big-ticket items like MRI machines and support for businesses that help curb greenhouse-gas emissions overseas. The Conservatives say they’ll make cuts to consultant costs, reducing travel and hospitality and selling federal real estate, but say they’ll they maintain the number of civil servants at existing levels.The Conservative platform includes about 14 billion dollars in spending cuts that are unaccounted for.
