This could be the year that residents in Durham Region finally get some answers about the proposed airport in Pickering.

The Trudeau Liberals are reportedly sitting on an updated report from a consulting firm on the need for an additional airport in the GTA.

And while some are hoping the findings could finally get things moving on an airport, others hope the feds slam on the breaks.

“It is the best soil in the world.  It’s right next to our largest market.  That is the real wealth of these lands.  To pave them would be economic folly and flies in the face of reality which is climate crisis.”said Mary Delaney with the group Land over Landings to the CBC.

While Delaney says she wants the land to be preserved for farming and agriculture, some politicians feel this airport is needed to relieve congestion at Toronto’s Pearson Airport and to help boost the local economy that has been left devastated by the closing of the General Motors Assembly Plant in Oshawa.
