A messy winter storm is expected to hit Southern Ontario this weekend that could break rainfall records. Toronto maintenance crews have been busy clearing out sewage drains and with flooding a real concern, property owners are being advised to clear out catch basins and debris from eavestroughs.
The Region’s Conservation Authority has issued a flood warning ahead of the rainy weekend and says all rivers within the GTA may experience higher levels leading to potential flooding and hazardous conditions. Dave Phillips with Environment Canada, says a record rainfall of 50 millimetres is possible. A special weather statement warns of heavy rain, freezing rain and strong winds Saturday into Sunday.
