The City of Toronto is cancelling permits for all major events and festivals until the end of June due to concerns over Covid 19. Among the cancelled events is the Pride Parade weekend, the largest in the country attracting hundreds of thousands to the city.
It was to be held June 26 to 28th. In a statement, Pride Toronto says its team’s working to deliver Pride celebrations in new, creative and unique ways that ensure safety and physical distancing. The move is a major blow to a number of cultural events that take place in the city annually. Mayor John Tory also announcing city child care facilities within schools remain closed until further notice. Meantime, Fire Chief Matthew Pegg says starting April 1st, about 60 more bylaw enforcement officers will be sent out to ensure the public is staying away from parks and parks amenities.
