With no end to the COVID-19 pandemic on the horizon, the federal government planning to move Canada Day celebrations online this summer.
Ottawa is working with Canadian artists to put together a program of virtual celebrations, instead of the traditional July 1st gathering on Parliament Hill.
Meantime, the federal government will give $500 million to support the arts, culture and sports sectors through Heritage Canada. The Prime Minister says the government recognizes that many artists are facing financial difficulties and adds those industries continue to make us dream, particularly in dark times. The move comes as part of broader efforts to support creative industries impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
